NAIDOC Week is an Australian observance lasting from the first Sunday in July until the following Sunday. NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The week is celebrated not just in the Indigenous communities but also in increasing numbers of government agencies, schools, local councils and workplaces.
This year Mungabareena will celebrate NAIDOC by hosting a Community Evening at 21 Hovell St. Wodonga.

Following the Welcome to Country, Flag Raising & Smoking Ceremony, the community will be offered a range of cultural activities including an Art Exhibition, Elders Discussion Tent, Workshops, live entertainment, Information Stalls. Dinner will also be provided, and we will also be giving out lucky door prizes.

We are seeking expressions of interest for the following;

 

Entertainers & Artists

Mungabareena are seeking expressions of interest from artists and entertainers wishing to participate on the day in our open mic sessions.

Stallholders & Small Businesses

Mungabareena are seeking expressions of interest from small businesses, sole traders and service providers wishing to participate on the day. We are asking service providers to have a children’s activity to help generate interest in your service.

Art Expo

Mungabareena Aboriginal Organisation are inviting all artists in the Albury / Wodonga area to submit their works for exhibition and/or sale during this year’s NAIDOC Week to be held on Thursday 11th July 2019 from 4pm – 7.30pm
This year’s NAIDOC theme is VOICE, TREATY, TRUTH.

Mungabareena Aboriginal Organisation are inviting School Students in the Albury/Wodonga area to submit their works for exhibition during this year’s NAIDOC Week to be held on Thursday 11th July 2019 from 4pm – 7.30pm

Do you have an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Little One in your family that you would like to have Welcomed to Country?

Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation and the Koori Maternity Services, invites Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander little ones aged 0-5 years to be Welcomed to Country.
“Registrations for the Welcome Boorai to Country ceremony are now open and we encourage all mums, dads, grandparents, carer’s, aunties and uncles to register and join us at this unique event.

Welcome Boorai to country event will take place on:
Date: Friday July 12th, 2019
Time: 2:00PM-7:00PM
Venue: The Cube Cafe

Each Little One will receive a personalised certificate and a gift to commemorate the event.

Afternoon tea and buffet dinner will be provided.

To register your baby complete the Welcome Boorai to Country Registration Form 2019 and return it to Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation in person or via email.

Expression of Interest  for Aboriginal Women’s Camp @ The Great Aussie Holiday Park

Dear Community,

Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation KMS Program and Fleur Magick Dennis, a Wiradjuri & Wailwaan woman, would like invite to Aboriginal Women from the Albury / Wodonga area to attend a Women’s Business Camp.

Fleur birthed three of her four children in Wiradjuri country in the bush.  For all of her four children, Fleur practiced Wiradjuri women’s ceremony and culture for herself whilst pregnant and for when the babies were born.  Fleur’s direct ancestors were Wiradjuri women who were midwives for their community. Fleur will share her own birthing practices & experiences from 2004 through to 2012.  Fleur will also share Birthing & Rebirthing ceremonies as taught by Wiradjuri Elder Minmia.

Date: 21st and 22nd of August 2019
