Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation (MAC) is a Community Controlled Organisation and provides a range of services for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people living within the Ovens Murray region.

Our Purpose

Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation was established in 1994 by local Aboriginal community members with the aim of having a healthy and proud community through motivation, education and cultural acknowledgement and giving a sense of belonging.

Position Overview

MAC is seeking a Preschool Director who has a strong vision, is passionate about good leadership and has the skills and courage to implement their ideas alongside and with the support of the existing Educators, Early Years’ Service Manager and CEO.

Koori First Steps is a small preschool, and the role of the Preschool Director is to manage the day-to-day operations, program’s annual budgetary, strategic planning cycles, and providing leadership in developing the capabilities of program staff. This person will be integral to the MAC team and will work with a highly motivated team in order to achieve better educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families and communities ensuring a quality education experience that is grounded in culture, is delivered to children.

This role goes beyond simply ensuring compliance. It’s about working with our team of dedicated educators, learning about, and celebrating Aboriginal culture and being a valued, active member of the wider Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation family.

ABOUT YOU

Essential Skills & Knowledge

  • Minimum Level 2 Teacher with proficient accreditation/registration or equivalent
  • Current First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis Certificates.
  • Food safety standards certificate
  • A current Driver’s Licence.
  • A current Victorian Working with Children Check.
  • A current Victorian Police Check.
  • An understanding of or genuine willingness to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their culture .
  • Prior experience in designing and delivering functional workplace systems in a preschool environment.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and compliance of National Quality Frameworks 2012 and the National Care and Education Regulations 2011.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to problem solve, negotiate, and resolve concerns and conflict.
  • Previous experience in the supervision of staff and performance management systems.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and to plan and organise own work and that of others under your direct supervision to achieve identified objectives and targets.
  • Ability to identify continuous improvement opportunities and ways to encourage others to do the same

Desirable Skills & Knowledge or Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience working with children with additional needs
  • Previous management experience
  • Experience working in Aboriginal community-controlled settings

Key Selection Criteria

  • Knowledge of health and wellbeing issues that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities face
  • Clear and effective written and oral communication skills that is readily understood by the intended audience
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, deliver and evaluate health promotion activities
  • Accurate record keeping and timely lodgment of reporting
  • Capacity to plan, implement, manage, and evaluate programs
  • Demonstrated ability in convening and mediating outcomes with groups
  • Demonstrated ability to use word processing packages i.e. Microsoft Office Suite
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills including the capacity to engage families and Elders in collaborative planning process
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage sensitive information, maintain confidentiality and always remain impartial
