Bowel cancer is Victoria’s second leading cause of cancer death, claiming the lives of more than 1,300 people each year. To understand the enormity of this – bowel cancer kills four times more Victorians than road accidents.
Yet – if found early – 90% of bowel cancers can be successfully treated.
Ernest’s story – Gugu mugu do, just do it
Ernest, an Aboriginal man from the Tjapukai tribe, is an advocate of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program.
Bowel cancer can develop without any symptoms.
The good news is, there is a simple test that can help find bowel changes early. Australians between the ages of 50 and 74 years are sent a free kit in the mail.
If you receive a bowel screening kit in the mail, do it, even if you feel well. It could save your life!
If found early, bowel cancer can be successfully treated.
